PF Withdrawal Calculator 2026

Updated · GetHirePlus team

Find out how much EPF you can withdraw, whether TDS applies, and your net payout after deductions.

This calculator shows how much EPF you can take out now and what reaches your bank. Formula: eligible amount = balance × the share your reason allows (75% for partial withdrawals after keeping 25%, 90% at age 54+, 100% on final settlement). On a final settlement before 5 years of service above Rs 50,000, TDS is 10% with PAN or 20% without.

Types of PF Withdrawal in 2026

On 13 October 2025 the EPFO Central Board of Trustees merged the 13 partial withdrawal provisions into 3 categories (essential needs, housing needs and special circumstances), set a uniform 12-month minimum membership and required members to keep 25% of the balance. These changes are reported to have been carried into a new EPF Scheme from 29 June 2026; we could not confirm that notification from an official source, so check the EPFO website before you apply. Here is what each type allows.

Essential Needs

Medical treatment, education (self or child), and marriage (self, child, or sibling). After 12 months membership. Up to 100% of eligible balance minus the 25% retention.

Housing Needs

Purchase, construction, or home loan repayment. After 12 months membership. Up to 100% of eligible balance minus the 25% retention.

Pre-retirement (Age 54+)

If you are 54 or older, you can withdraw up to 90% of your total EPF corpus even while still employed, one year ahead of retirement.

Unemployment (After Job Loss)

On losing your job you can withdraw up to 75% straight away. The remaining 25% (full settlement) can be withdrawn after 12 months without a job, up from 2 months under the old rule, per the EPFO board decision of October 2025.

Retirement (Age 58+)

Full 100% withdrawal of your EPF corpus at retirement. Fully tax-exempt if you have 5+ years of continuous service.

TDS and Tax Rules on PF Withdrawal

The most important factor determining your tax liability is whether you have completed 5 years of continuous EPF membership. TDS is deducted on a final settlement paid before 5 years, not on partial withdrawals. The Income-tax Act, 2025 also renumbered the forms used for TDS exemption from 1 April 2026.

Situation TDS Rate Tax Treatment Action
5+ years of service NIL Fully exempt (Section 10(12) in the 1961 Act numbering) No action needed
Below 5 years, amount above Rs. 50,000, PAN provided 10% Taxable as "Income from Salaries" or "Other Sources" in ITR Submit the no-TDS declaration (Form 15G/15H, reported as Form 121 from April 2026) if total income is below the taxable limit
Below 5 years, amount above Rs. 50,000, no PAN 20% Taxable; the no-PAN rate was cut from the maximum marginal rate to 20% from 1 April 2023 Link PAN urgently to avoid the higher rate
Below 5 years, amount Rs. 50,000 or less NIL (TDS) Still taxable in your hands but EPFO will not deduct TDS Report in ITR if total income is taxable
Partial withdrawal (medical, housing, education, marriage) NIL TDS applies only to a final settlement before 5 years, not to partial withdrawals Keep the claim documents

Form 121 (reported, from April 1, 2026): Under the Income-tax Rules, 2026, Form 15G and Form 15H are reported to be replaced by a single Form 121. We could not confirm this in an official source, so check the official form mapping guide. If your total annual income including the EPF withdrawal is below the taxable threshold, submit Form 121 to EPFO to prevent TDS deduction.

How EPF Withdrawal Amount is Calculated

Your eligible withdrawal depends on your reason, service length, and current balance. Here is the step-by-step logic used by this calculator:

Withdrawal Type Minimum Membership Maximum Eligible Amount Frequency Limit
Medical 12 months Up to 75% of eligible member balance Unlimited
Education 12 months Up to 75% of eligible member balance Up to 10 times
Marriage 12 months Up to 75% of eligible member balance Up to 5 times
Housing 12 months Up to 75% of eligible member balance Once for purchase; separate for renovation
Pre-retirement (age 54+) None (age-based) Up to 90% of total EPF corpus Once
Unemployment (straight away) None Up to 75% of total balance Once
Unemployment (12+ months) None 100% (full settlement) Once
Retirement (age 58+) None 100% (full settlement) Once

Note: the EPFO board's October 2025 decision counts both the employee and the employer share in the eligible balance, with 25% kept back as a minimum balance. This calculator applies the percentage to the full balance you enter.

What About EPS (Pension Fund)?

Your PF account is actually split into two parts: EPF (Employee Provident Fund) and EPS (Employee Pension Scheme). When you withdraw your PF balance, you are typically withdrawing the EPF portion. The EPS portion works differently:

Out of the employer's 12% contribution, 8.33% goes to EPS (capped at about Rs. 2,083 a month on wages above the Rs. 25,000 ceiling in force from 17 September 2026; it was Rs. 1,250 under the old Rs. 15,000 ceiling) and the rest goes to EPF. The employee's full 12% goes to EPF.

EPS cannot be withdrawn before 10 years of service; instead, you receive a Scheme Certificate. After 10 years, you become eligible for pension at age 58. If you have less than 10 years of service, you can withdraw EPS as a lump sum using Form 10C. Our calculator covers the EPF portion only.

Worked example (the sample values above)

You have Rs 3,50,000 in EPF after 4 years of continuous service, and you have been out of work for over 12 months, so you take a full settlement.

  1. Eligible amount: 100% of Rs 3,50,000 = Rs 3,50,000.
  2. Service is below 5 years and the amount is above Rs 50,000, so TDS applies: 10% with PAN = Rs 35,000 (20% without PAN = Rs 70,000).
  3. Net payout: Rs 3,50,000 − Rs 35,000 = Rs 3,15,000. The amount is taxable in your return; the TDS is credited against it.
  4. With one more year of service (5 years), the same settlement would be tax-free with no TDS.

Which calculator do I need?

  • PF withdrawal calculator (this page): how much you can take out now, and the TDS and net payout on it.
  • EPF calculator: how your monthly PF builds up and what the corpus could be at retirement.
  • VPF calculator: whether to put in more than 12%, and the Rs 2.5 lakh tax line on your own contributions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much PF can I withdraw before 5 years of service?
Under the rules the EPFO board approved in October 2025, you can make a partial withdrawal for essential needs (medical, education, marriage) or housing after 12 months of EPF membership, keeping at least 25% of your balance. Partial withdrawals carry no TDS. If you take a final settlement before completing 5 years of continuous service and the amount is above Rs. 50,000, EPFO deducts TDS at 10% (with PAN) or 20% (without PAN).
Is EPF withdrawal taxable after 5 years?
No. EPF withdrawal is fully exempt from income tax if you have completed 5 or more years of continuous service (Section 10(12) in the 1961 Act numbering). No TDS is deducted and you do not need to report it as income in your ITR.
Can I withdraw 100% of my PF after leaving a job?
Yes, but with a waiting period. Under the EPFO board decision of October 2025 you can withdraw up to 75% of your EPF balance straight away when you lose your job, and the remaining 25% after 12 months of unemployment (the old rule was 2 months). You do not need to wait if you are 58 or older (retirement withdrawal).
What is the new EPF Scheme 2026 partial withdrawal rule?
The EPFO Central Board of Trustees decided on 13 October 2025 to merge 13 partial withdrawal provisions into 3 categories: essential needs (illness, education, marriage), housing needs (purchase, construction, home loan repayment), and special circumstances. A uniform minimum membership of 12 months applies across all categories, and you must retain at least 25% of your eligible balance. These are reported to apply through a new EPF Scheme from 29 June 2026, which we could not confirm from an official source.
What replaces Form 15G for PF withdrawal in 2026?
From April 1, 2026, Form 15G and Form 15H are reported to be replaced by Form 121 under the Income-tax Rules, 2026 (we could not confirm this in an official source). If your total annual income (including the EPF withdrawal) is below the taxable threshold, you can submit Form 121 to EPFO to avoid TDS deduction on withdrawals before completing 5 years of service.
Can I withdraw PF at age 54 without retiring?
Yes. Members aged 54 and above can withdraw up to 90% of their total EPF corpus even while still employed. This is a pre-retirement provision intended to help you plan financially before your actual retirement date.
Is the EPF wage ceiling Rs. 15,000 or Rs. 25,000 now?
Rs. 25,000 a month from 17 September 2026. The Union Cabinet raised it from Rs. 15,000, the first change since 2014, so employees earning up to Rs. 25,000 are now covered compulsorily. The ceiling does not change how much of your existing balance you can withdraw; it changes how much goes into EPF and EPS each month.
